Mathematics

Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries, providing the solution to some of history’s most intriguing problems. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

In Mathematics students follow a curriculum that meets the needs of the learner rather than a specific year group learning programme. There are three pathways per year group. For example, a student who exceeds the age related expectations at the end of Key Stage 2 will follow an accelerated learning pathway starting at stage 7 in Year 7. A student meeting the age related expectations will start at stage 6 in Year 7 and a child working below the age related expectations will be offered more support and start at stage 5 in Year 7.
