Severe Weather Policy
Severe weather may cause the school to be closed. The decision will be made by the Head at the earliest opportunity once all available information has been taken into consideration.
Severe Weather Criteria
We will remain open unless, in the Head's view, to do so would put the health and safety of staff and students at risk. A decision on whether to close the school or not will be based upon the following criteria:
- Current weather conditions and the available forecast information.
- Conditions of roads and the operation of transport services.
- Staff availability
The school will aim to communicate any information regarding remaining open or closure as quickly and effeciently as possible. Communication will be as follows:
- School website
- Recorded phone message
- Text messages
- BBC Radio Merseyside/Radiocity FM
The same process and method of communication will then be followed on each subsequent day of severe weather. The school website will continue to be updated throughout the day.
Similarly, the school may need to impose an ‘Early Finish’ to enable staff and students to return home safely. This will be communicated in the same way.
Severe Weather & Exams
During public examination periods there will be separate arrangements which will be communicated to the students concerned. Examination boards make no allowance for non-attendance due to severe weather. Therefore every effort should be made to attend.
